Musica Ficta (1993)
Taking a fresh look at early music in a contemporary setting,
The programme features Sonata Pian’ e Forte by the 16th century Venetian composer Giovanni Gabrieli and music from The Draughtsman’s Contract by Michael Nyman. Advocates of authenticity and period instruments will almost certainly be dismayed, as Charlie Barber + Band take early music apart to find out what makes it tick…
Also included is music by Simon Thorne, Peter Reynolds and Barnaby Oliver, who have been invited to contribute new interpretations of music by Monteverdi, Machaut and Handel for the 12-piece Band.
