Three World Premieres (1994)
A concert featuring the world premiere of three new works.
American composer Robert Moran, best known for his operatic works and large-scale โhappeningโ events in Europe and the USA, has written 32 Cryptograms โ a tribute to Britainโs fearless film-maker Derek Jarman.
Other new commissions are by Graham Fitkin, whose work has been described as having โthe urgency and colour usually found in the best rock musicโ, and Chris Batchelor, a regular soloist with Django Batesโ big bands.
Barnaby Oliver, one of the more exciting young composers working in Britain today, expands his catalogue of railway tracks โ a second excursion of his African-inspired Mlembe Special and a new arrangement of Villanova Junction by guitar legend Jimi Hendrix.
Also featured is music by New Yorkโs Bang On A Can festival director and composer David Lang, together with music by Britainโs cult composers Michael Nyman and Steve Martland
