Commissioned by choreographer Tamara McLorg for her solo show, with funds provided by the Arts Council of Great Britain

Taking its title from a popular Cuban song style, Guajira juxtaposes African rhythms against melodic material from Spanish sources.

First performed in concert version by the New Arts Consort at Chapter Theatre on 21 August 1981
with Noriko Kawai (piano), Simon Limbrick (percussion), William Bruce (cello), Neil Watson (basses)
