This work takes a few bars from the opening of Beethoven’s Piano sonata No 14 in C-sharp minor – the so-called “Moonlight” sonata – and transforms the celebrated quaver triplet motif into an interlocking pattern between instruments.
First performed at The Gate, Cardiff 24 February 2006 with Massimo di Trolio (bass clarinet), Semra Kurutaç (piano), Matthew West (vibraphone), Jonathan Burnett (violin), Katy Rowe (violin), Rebekah Brown (viola), Sharon McKinley (cello), Georgina Poad (double bass)
